Transmission & Drivetrain

Clutch kits, CV joints, drive shafts and gearbox mounts transmit power from the engine to the wheels. Drivetrain failures tend to develop gradually and get worse under load, which is why workshops often catch them during acceleration or turning complaints.

Why it matters

A failing CV joint or worn clutch does not just reduce performance. A torn CV boot left unaddressed lets grease escape and contaminants in, turning an inexpensive boot replacement into a full joint replacement. A slipping clutch generates heat that can damage the flywheel it rides against.

When to replace

Clutch kits typically last 80,000 to 120,000 km depending on driving style, less in heavy stop-start traffic. CV joints and boots should be inspected whenever the vehicle is on a lift — a torn boot is a visual, not diagnostic, check.

Signs you may need a replacement

  • A clicking or popping noise when turning, especially at low speed
  • The clutch pedal feeling high, spongy or slipping under load
  • Vibration that increases with speed
  • Grease visible on the inside of a wheel or tyre
  • Difficulty engaging gears or unusual gearbox noise
