Electrical & Ignition
Alternators, starter motors, ignition coils and sensors keep a vehicle's electrical systems running and its engine firing correctly. A fault here can leave a vehicle undrivable with no warning, which is why workshops treat electrical diagnostics as urgent.

Why it matters
A failing alternator will not just dim the dashboard lights — it will eventually drain the battery completely and strand the vehicle. Ignition faults cause misfires that waste fuel and, left unresolved, can damage the catalytic converter, turning an inexpensive coil into a much costlier exhaust repair.
When to replace
Alternators and starter motors are typically replaced in response to a diagnosed fault rather than on a fixed schedule, though most last well over 100,000 km. Ignition coils and sensors vary widely — a check engine light with a stored fault code is usually the first real signal.
Signs you may need a replacement
- A battery warning light on the dashboard
- Dimming headlights or interior lights at idle
- A slow or clicking start
- Rough idling or a check engine light
- The vehicle stalling without warning
